There is a profound scripture in the bible and it is the story of the poor widow in Luke 21:3 who gave two small copper coins and Jesus said she had given more than everyone because she gave out of her lack.
This scripture taught me a number of things about offerings.
1. Jesus noticed the person who put in more than others: when you give to God, God measures what you have with what you are giving. Jesus specifically said in Luke 21:4
"All of these people have given what they could spare. But she, in her poverty, has given everything she had to live on."
King David understood this principle when he said in 2 Samuel 24:24 . "I won't offer the LORD my God burnt sacrifices that cost me nothing."
Stop giving God ten Naira and twenty Naira. The amount you spend on internet should not be less than your offering. Honor God! Your offering should be planned! Set it aside, budget for it.
2. You give to God when you give to the church and the poor: the church represents God so when you want to give to God, give to the church. Jesus noticed the offerings AND the people who gave them. If you want to catch God's attention, be a serious giver. Every gentile who ever caught the attention in the bible was a giver. The centurion whom Jesus described as a man of great faith built a synagogue for the Jews. The first gentile to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit was also a major giver. It was said of him in Acts 10:31 Cornelius, your prayer has been heard, and your gifts to the poor have been noticed by God!
3. God notices when you honor Him with money: God knows your account balance and He sees what you are giving. This is what I do for offerings, I give at the level I want God to bless me and the moment I start, money starts to come to me at that level. You can decide your financial level.
Giving is the way beloved, what you give you cannot lack. May God give us wisdom in Jesus name. Happy Sunday.
